Claudia Eicker-Harris was born and attended school in Johannesburg, South Africa. After school, she studied a BA Dramatic Art at the University of the Witwatersrand, majoring in acting and directing (and smoking 40 a day - a filthy habit that she's now given up). After graduating (with honours no less) in 1995 (it seems so long ago), Claudia entered the world of corporate theatre and events and, in 2001, she and her partner, Laura-Beth (also known as Mary-Lou, Mary-Beth, Laura-Lou or any other double barrel you can think of), opened their own event company – Creative Directions. The company went from strength to strength with Laura-Beth as the Managing Director and Claudia as the Creative Director (they tried it the other way round, but that didn't work). In 2006, the couple decided to have a baby and in November of that year (thanks to a wonderful doctor and a generous anonymous donor), Laura-Beth gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, named Eva (giver of life). In 2008, shortly after same-sex marriages were legalised in South Africa, Claudia and Laura-Beth married (at an eat-your-hearts-out Ellen and Portia ceremony). While continuing to work as the Creative Director of Creative Directions, writing scripts, strategising business presentations, directing corporate theatre and events, Claudia began to write children’s stories. In 2016 City Rooster, a children's book for South African kids, was published by Penguin Random House and is currently in its second print run. Claudia has written hundreds of concepts, event scripts, corporate theatre scripts, video scripts and a few articles. She also proofreads for ad agencies. Clients include Barloworld, Barloworld Equipment, Coca-Cola, The Institute of Directors SA, Hollard, Liberty, Grid Worldwide, Openfield, EOH, SAB, PPC, Radium Engineering and more. Claudia lives in Johannesburg with Laura-Beth, Eva, 3 dogs, 1 cat, 4 chickens and some imaginary friends.
